Art is a mirror that reflects society, history, and culture, allowing people to explore themselves, the world around them, and the profound questions of life. If art is likened to a silken fabric of humanity, then artistic programs are the shimmering embroidery woven upon it. These programs serve as a space where cultural, historical, and social elements are brought together and harmonized, presented in performative forms drawn from real life, people, society, and the natural world.
In the current context of multicultural integration, the preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage have become ever more vital. As Vietnam advances toward globalization, the question of how to maintain our national identity remains a pressing concern. Artistic programs provide a creative and effective medium to connect communities with their cultural roots, through performances that bring traditional art forms to life.
At the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board, the preservation and promotion of intangible heritage are being actively implemented alongside the development of on-site tourism activities. A number of programs have been launched, such as the “Legendary My Son Night” art show, the “Resonance of My Son” music performance, and “Spring at the Ancient Towers”; as well as traditional performances of Cham folk songs, “Bài Chòi” singing, and Cham folk arts (such as the water-bearing dance, Saranai flute playing, and the Apsara dance). These activities are regularly held at the My Son performance house and within the temple tower complex to offer visitors both artistic enjoyment and deeper understanding of tangible and intangible cultural values.
In practice, these performances have significantly enhanced the tourism experience in My Son. Cham folk art is also featured in major local cultural and tourism events, thereby promoting Cham culture to a broader audience and strengthening the unique identity of the My Son temple complex on Vietnam’s cultural tourism map.
The merger of Quang Nam province and Da Nang city has created a land rich in heritage, natural beauty, and historical relics. As the country enters a new era of development, the cultural values of the Vietnamese people are considered a fundamental and intrinsic force for sustainable growth, an idea strongly emphasized by our Party and State. Artistic programs, in this regard, are an effective vehicle for preserving and spreading traditional cultural values. Through stage performances, re-enactments, and creative reinterpretations of folk arts, the public especially younger generations can engage with and gain a deeper appreciation of the nation’s cultural roots.
These programs not only keep heritage “alive” in contemporary life but also create a dynamic space for interaction between past and present, between artisans and the community. In doing so, they help awaken national pride and a collective consciousness to preserve and promote cultural identity in this new era - an era of growth, prosperity, and global integration for the Vietnamese people.
