SPREADING CHAM CULTURAL HERITAGE VALUES TO YOUNG PEOPLE: FROM ACADEMIC CONNECTIONS TO REAL-WORLD PRACTICE

In the context of digital transformation and the rapid growth of modern media platforms, the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values are no longer limited to research or exhibition activities, but require new approaches that are more engaging and accessible to younger generations. With the aim of creating a bridge between heritage and the future generation, the Management Board of Mỹ Sơn World Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, supported a practical training program for Communication students from FPT University, held at the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture on April 5, 2026.

The program took place within the museum’s exhibition space, which houses thousands of valuable artifacts reflecting the cultural life, beliefs, and artistic achievements of the flourishing Champa civilization. This was not merely a study visit, but an open classroom where students could directly engage with heritage through hands-on experiences such as pottery crafting, brocade weaving, and painting.

During the program, Communication students from FPT University Da Nang presented an overview of the outstanding values of the Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary, the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, and the Mỹ Nghiệp brocade weaving village. Stories about historical formation, unique architecture, and the spiritual significance of Cham cultural heritage provided participants with deeper insights into their local heritage.

At the same time, cultural advisors directly guided students on how to effectively incorporate Cham cultural elements into modern communication practices. From content development and storytelling through promotional videos and imagery to leveraging social media platforms for heritage dissemination, all aspects were shared in a vivid and practical manner.

A highlight of the program was the group practice activity, where students were assigned to develop communication products such as short videos, articles, and digital campaigns centered around the theme “Cham Festival – The Dance of Cultural Harmony.” Through this, students not only learned how to tell heritage stories but also became cultural ambassadors, spreading traditional values to the wider community.

Representing the participating students, Duong Quoc Le Khoa shared: “Previously, Cham heritage felt quite distant to us, but through this experience, we realized that heritage can be retold in a youthful, creative, and more relatable way for young people.”

The collaboration between the Management Board of Mỹ Sơn World Cultural Heritage and the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture not only enhances students’ awareness of heritage values but also opens a new direction in conservation—integrating heritage with education and modern communication. In an era where every young individual can become a media channel, equipping them with knowledge and inspiration about heritage is key to ensuring that traditional cultural values are continuously preserved and widely disseminated.

This also stands as a clear testament to ongoing efforts to bring heritage closer to contemporary life, especially to younger generations—the future custodians of national culture.
