DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND MUSEUM PRELIMINARY SURVEY OF THE INSCRIPTION AND STELE SYSTEM FOR THE PREPARATION OF A DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE DOSSIER AT THE MY SON TEMPLE COMPLEX

n order to gradually establish a scientific foundation for the preparation of a documentary dossier proposing the recognition of the inscription and stele system at the My Son Temple Complex as heritage, today the Department of Conservation and Museum under the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board conducted an initial preliminary field survey.

The survey focused on reviewing and conducting an initial identification of the current condition of the remaining inscriptions and steles; recording their locations, forms, materials, dimensions, levels of integrity, surface conditions, signs of weathering, and other factors related to conservation work. At the same time, the survey team also carried out preliminary comparisons with existing documents, archival records, and previous research results in order to support the inventory, systematization, and assessment of the documentary value of each artifact.

This represents an important initial step in the process of developing a scientific dossier for the inscription and stele system at My Son Sanctuary. Beyond being original artifacts of exceptional historical, cultural, and scientific significance, these inscriptions and steles also serve as direct historical sources that contribute to clarifying the formation history and development process of the My Son temple complex, as well as the religious, political, and cultural life of the Champa Kingdom across different historical periods.

Through this preliminary survey, the Department of Conservation and Museum will continue implementing subsequent stages of research, inventory, digitization, statistical documentation, and systematic completion of the documentary dossier. This will provide the basis for proposing that competent authorities consider recognizing the inscription and stele system at My Son as documentary heritage in the near future.
