On March 24, 2026, the Management Board of the My Son World Cultural Heritage, in coordination with Forest Protection Sub-Department Area III, received and released one individual of the Mouhot’s box turtle (Cuora mouhotii), handed over by the People’s Committee of Dien Ban Ward, back into its natural habitat. According to specialists, the Mouhot’s box turtle is a wild species classified as endangered and rare under the CITES Convention, and is also listed in group IIB under Circular No. 85/2025/TT-BNNMT on the management of endangered, precious, and rare species and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
After receiving the turtle, authorities conducted a health check and assessed its survival capability. The results confirmed that the individual was fit for release into the wild. The turtle was released in Compartment 1, Sub-area 414, within the forest of the My Son Cultural and Historical Site Landscape Protection Area, it is an environment with suitable ecological conditions ensuring safety and adaptability for its return to nature.

The reception and release of wild animals not only contributes to biodiversity conservation and the restoration of rare species populations in the My Son special-use forest, but also demonstrates effective coordination between local authorities and forest rangers in forest protection efforts.

The Management Board of My Son World Cultural Heritage also calls on the public to raise awareness about wildlife protection, refrain from illegal hunting, trading, and captivity, and proactively report or hand over wild animals to authorities when encountered, contributing to the protection of the ecosystem and the sustainable value of the My Son World Heritage Site
